Magical Music Moments!
On Monday 20th November, the Little Owls class presented their music learning to a wowed audience of parents, staff and pupils.
We are very lucky at Rogate CE Primary School to be able to offer music lessons, with a professional musician, to every child. This year, the Year R and Year 1 pupils have undertaken the West Sussex Music Services new course 'Early Musicality', which teaches the children about pitch, rhythm and performing in unison. The school were very excited to see what they had learned.
The performance began with a 'Call and Response' welcome song designed to warm the children up. It is an African song which has enhanced the pupils understanding of languages other than their own. Two of our children were brave enough to lead this part of the assembly, performing small solos. Well done to Charlie Dixon and Eliza Brodrick for your bravery!
We were then treated to the class playing the Djembe drums together. They were extremely focused and performed fantastically well, especially given that they have only been learning for 9 weeks.
The presentation ended with an action song, which required audience participation and was great fun for everybody.
The audience were all extremely impressed with the mature attitude and confidence of our youngest pupils. It was evident how beneficial this programme is in developing the creativity and musicality of all the participants.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the RSFF for funding these music lessons. The Kingfishers are currently learning the violin and the Red Kites are due to begin their woodwind lessons after Christmas. We are all excited see how our young musicians progress over the year.
