Evolution at Rogate!!
The EVOLUTION project has begun!!
Friday 26th January
Today, the Red Kites went to see the Cirque du Soleil perform their fantastic show 'Ovo'. We travelled up to the Royal Albert Hall in London for the performance and were quickly shown to our seats which were very high up! This was great as it meant we could see all the performers and the staging very clearly.
This stage of the process is very important as it allows the pupils to take inspiration from experts in the field and to clearly see what good engineering can achieve with regards to staging.
The next stage of the process will allow the pupils to begin designing their own staging and engineering their proto-types in groups. It is a challenge that we are all excited to begin!
Monday 8th January
Today was a very exciting day for the Red Kites Class because today was the first step in their Evolution project journey! This project will see the pupils of Rogate CE Primary School working with engineers throughout the Spring term in order to create prototypes of moving, mechanical and electrical staging.
The project is sponsored by Rolls Royce and hosted by the Royal Albert Hall. The stimulus for the project will be the fantastic Cirque du Soleil production 'Ovo'. The show is described as
"A colourful carnival of crazy crickets, amazing ants and flexible fleas, OVO uncovers the natural world at our feet. Rush headlong into an ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and love."
Mr Palfrey, Rogate's link engineer, came to introduce the project to the pupils and explain the role of an engineer and how the project will run. The class learned about different types of engineer, the importance of shape within structures and how forces affect different machines. It was a very interesting afternoon and both the pupils and staff are extremely excited about the project. The next step will be for the pupils to go and watch the Cirque du Soleil in a couple of weeks!
As the project is taking place over such an extended period of time, this will be a live News article and will be updated regularly with information and photographs.
