At Rogate we create homework grids which offer each child 9 homework options over the term. Pupils are expected to complete at least one piece of homework a week and they should complete at least 2 maths and 2 literacy tasks. They can then choose their remaining tasks. Some children like to challenge themselves to complete all the tasks by the end of the half term which demonstrates great dedication to their learning!
Homework should not be an awful chore- it is designed to consolidate learning which is taking place in class and each piece should not take more than half an hour although I know that we have some very concientious students who do take far more time over their work to ensure they hand in their very best effort.
In addition to the homework tasks, all pupils should read daily. This may mean reading with a parent and following along, reading to a parent/sibling/grandparent or reading independently but it is essential for their continued development.
